ArtWhale Artists' Watercolor 48 Colors in Half-Pans
ArtWhale Artists’ Watercolor 48 colors in half-pans

- red ones: Permanent Orange Red, Rose Red, Chinese Red, Pozzuoli Red Ochre;
- blue ones: Prussian Blue, The Peacock Blue, Sea Blue, Cobalt Blue;
- green ones: Malachite Green, Hooker’s Green Brillight, Permanent Green;
- yellow ones: Indian Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Naples Yellow;
- brown ones: Burnt Brown, Burned Sienna, Raw Umber, and the other hues.
HIGH-QUALITY PAINTS – colors contain high-quality pigments that are blendable and quick-drying. Working with them, one obtains invaluable experience. Different levels of transparency peculiar to the watercolors provide a possibility to obtain custom hues or, vice versa, apply techniques to work out stunning glazing. Unique colors are the key to extraordinary staining when experimenting with techniques to bring the picture to life.
VERY PRACTICAL AND SUPER LIGHT – artist watercolor in half-pans are the best choice for outdoor painting as well as painting in a studio. It works out well with watercolor paper and mixed media; painting on toned paper is also possible. Children can benefit from it as well.
SAFE AND NON-TOXIC – the paints have superior saturation and are rich in pigments – no steep markup. There are no toxic substances; odorless.
PERMANENCE AND LIGHTFASTNESS – the criterion is measured on a scale from 1 to 8. All the colors in the set are not subjected to any discoloration or fading because they are rated between 5-8, with 8 maximum. Thus, they can remain bright and avoid fading in normal conditions of display for no less than 15 years (the ones rated 5). Moreover, the other ones that have 7-8 stars and which are the majority of the set, look as good as new for 50-100 years. To grade 5 correspond only such colors as Malachit Green, Lemon Sienna, The Peacock Blue, while all the others are rated 7-8 and, accordingly, keep its brightness for half a century and even more.
IDEAL FOR USING TECHNIQUES – explore a wide range of approaches to painting in watercolor – try out variegated washes or upgrade flat washing skills. You can create all kinds of textures, such as splattering. The number of methods is countless, but this watercolor can do well in each of them.
GOOD GIFT IDEA: You do not know how to surprise nearest and dearest, do you? Having this set of watercolors, they will be on cloud nine. It does not matter what the holiday it is – just make them feel happier. Artists will always be pleased to receive such a set because they constantly run out of paint.
VEHICLE – as a rule, watercolor is a mix of water-soluble binder and a pigment. Binder in this watercolor is Gum Arabic, which positively affects the glossiness, increasing it as well as transparency. It also provides you with an opportunity to work longer, since drying time is increased due to the binder.

I love the quality of the paint but 2 rows of half pans are out of order and it is frustrating.
I bought these paintings to try them out. I had medium expectations. Yet they surpassed my low expectations. I love the white paint. It is highly pigmented and it works beautifully. I cannot say anything about their permanence. I would have to wait 15 plus years to confirm this attribute. I will keep an eye on this as time goes by. I am so pleased with the results, I am almost ready to order a new set.
I bought this product for the the pallet size and the color range, and I have to I am not disappointed! The colors go down smoothly and mix wonderfully. After painting a couple of projects I find I'm pulling out this set more & more. The brushes have been great too. I love this set because it contains colors that I really needed. The range of greens are excellent. The range of neutrals are beyond what one would normally find in a set at this price. If you are stepping up from a beginner to an intermediate level, this is a good set at an affordable price.
This watercolor paint set is a bit different than the typical water color paint set I’m used to. The paint comes in individual small pans where you have to remove each label that contains the paint information, in order to paint. It’s a bit tedious. I prefer to have the labels right next to the actual paint so that I can refer to it as I paint. The paint brush is pretty nifty. Water can be added inside of the handle and used straight from the brush. Overall, the set up is nice. Some of the paint that’s on the metal container did rub off in a few areas from the areas rubbing against each other wearing the paint down.
This set of watercolors comes with a great variety of colors in a very nice package. Definitely a quality set. I am far from an expert on watercolor paint sets, so my initial reaction is that these are a bit overpriced, but that could be because I'm more used to purchasing smaller sets for children, which don't include nearly as many colors and may not be as good of quality.
He's watercolors are better quality than we were expecting. They have appropriate color and depth. Easy to use and so far seem reasonably light fast for watercolors. Certainly suitable for anyone from the beginning of through a very advanced intermediate level of painter.
paint wet easily and was useable immediately, colors are highly pigmented almost more like a water based ink. Good quality for the price and color selections. Must add, several colors are duplicates or are so close in color it is hard to tell them apart. Forget the swatch card, it is useless, color orders are all out of whack. Overall a pretty darn good set for the price
(1 part) I purchased the Art Whale 48 half pan set in June 2022 and have been using them for the last year. It's great that these are now available in a 24 half pan set, so I ordered those as well. These are not top-of-the-line watercolors, but they're not $300 per set either. At this price point, they are an excellent value for student grade paints in a very high quality tin. Note: all of the colors from the 24 set are also included in the 48 set. 🌿 PROS + half the cost of Paul Rubens or White Nights as of now + rewet easily + mix extremely well + very highly pigmented and vibrant, but easy to water down as well for a more subtle look + nice selection of convenience colors not often found in student grade sets -- including a quin rose (PV19), sap green, beautiful indigo, pozzuoli red ochre, good variety of earth tones, and several pretty purples + excellent french ultramarine (properly warm and granulating) and gorgeous scarlet (one of the best reds I've used) + not as "inky" as Mei Liang and Paul Rubens can be at full masstone + no bleed through on Hobonichi (Tomoe River), Leuchtturm1917 80gsm, or Stalogy + the set's format is similar to Paul Rubens but they paint out more like Roman Szmal or White Nights
(2 part) 🌿 PROS + lightfast ratings seem legit, as the colors which are typically problematic (like PR177 and PB27) are marked accordingly + exceptional metal box -- closes perfectly and has smooth edges + pans snap into place and don't move around + the pans themselves are the thicker kind; I like this because it separates the colors a bit more and prevents contamination + wrappers provide pigment information, come off easily, and can be placed on the bottom of the pans for future reference 🌿 CONS - no one has done an independent lightfast test yet; for now, use these in your art journals and planners or for art designed to be scanned - fairly opaque overall; not the best choice if you're looking for super transparent watercolors - PY150 shouldn't be a cadmium orange, so perhaps that's a typo? - umber and burnt sienna appear to have flip-flopped labels 🌿 NOTE The Art Whale tubes and pans are completely different paints. Different pigments, different color names, different characteristics. The TUBE watercolors are more transparent overall, but they crack when you pour them into pans and let them dry. The cracking isn't too bad at first but gets worse as the months go by to the point some colors become a little crumbly. This is one major reason I prefer the 24 or 48 Half Pan sets instead.
LOVE, LOVE LOVE! The colors are fantastic, the whole kit is amazing. Thank you!
Very nice paint with good flow, lots of pigment, and wets and lifts from pan easily. Compares well with other pro artist paint.
Wow. These have exceeded my expectations and I find myself reaching for this particular set more and more! The color range is absolutely gorgeous.
I love these watercolors! They are so fun to work with and the color selection is great. Their finish is beautiful. Glad I have these in my collection.
It was pretty good. The colors were mostly vivid, but some colors were a little duller and lighter than I expected. In the video they put for the product, the paints were really easy to open, but for me they were a little hard to. I don’t know if this is just me being bad at opening them though. (I’m not that strong TwT) For 48 paints, that’s a lot to open. As for the price, it’s like your typical paint set. It’s not too pricey, and you get what you pay for. I also really like how they packaged the thing, and I kinda just like pan watercolors more than the tube ones. Overall, this is a good product, I would definitely recommend this to someone.
Pros Very pigmented Wide selection Sturdy case Lightfast Good Transparency Good paint information Cons Swatch card is chaotic Indigo is mostly gray Some misspellings Now, I love these paints. Some granulate a bit, which I like. I even like the quirky misspellings and purposefully wrote them that way in my swatches. I would keep the covers of the paints to store the information in a logical order. The swatch card is impossible to follow and does not correspond to any order of the paints. These are great, if like me, mixing can be overwhelming to you. These paints are great for the price point and I like that I have the option to refill some of the colors with the tube set when needed. I highly recommend these to hobbyists like me who can’t justify a high price point but want paint that doesn’t have too many fillers.
Really love these watercolors. Colors are intense so you don’t use very mush at one time. It also has a color chart for you to make swatches, and for each color it tells transparency or opacity. I didn’t really enjoy taking all of the papers off of the little pans, but it does protect them. I also didn’t like that the colors were not in order according to the chart, but I think these are minor issues that a person can just deal with. I just rearranged the colors when I took off the papers.
This paint is good for children, but not for professional watercolour artists, because it has white as one of the ingredients, and it defits the translucency of the paint.
This watercolor paint box is worth it . Nice colors . I would recommend
was pleasantly surprised on the quality of these watercolor paints ! I needed a smaller travel pallet, so tried this brand. EXCELLENT ! I had to make my own color chart (see photo) since one provided did not adhere to the actual paint line up in box. would highly recommend !
I am new to watercolor and was using a cheap set I got at a local craft store. I couldn't figure out why I could never get the same results as the videos I watched. This set has changed everything! I am having so much better results and the colors are way more vibrant.
I ordered this set in a whim for nature journaling. We had a much smaller set. My daughter loved this new set and all the “vibrant” colors in this set so she could paint all the beautiful colors of nature, especially the roses in our yard. Quality so far seems great for our purposes.
Beautiful pigmented, these paints are so worth it, especially for beginners that want to practice and not worry about the price.
Really love painting with these watercolor paints
High quality paint and case. Case will last for a long time.
Would have liked the reference card with the names of the colors to have been matched up with the placement of the colors in the tin
I love this paints, highly recommended!!!!
I was very impressed with the various colors and the variety in this set. They looked perfect for landscapes, but would also do very well on interior or still life paintings. I don't usually do color charts, but I'm glad I did on this one. The chart is not in the same order as the paints, so I recommend that you either take a picture of the labels before you remove them or take them off as you chart them one by one. I was glad that I did take a picture so I will be able to locate the colors on the chart. It has 7 different greens, 8 different blues, and 10 different yellows. That's not including the ranges of violets, reds, and neutral tones, including a titanium white and a skin tone. It's just a great, well-balanced range of colors, so you can paint anything you want. Many are colors that you would see in the natural landscape, so my first impression was that this would be a great set for landscape painting, although, really, you can do anything you want.
A very nice set with PLENTY of colors to work with. Sometimes that can male a very big difference in ease and continuity of color. I like that the water brush is included and I like that the brush can fit in the tin as well. Very handy to have it all together. Plus the tin is super nice and neat. The paints themselves are nice but do not expect the labels or colors or layout or descriptions to make much sense... You can tell it is not made in the US because of the typos and a bit of confusion with what is what. But just rearrange as you see fit and try to go with the flow (literally too : ) and you will probably be pretty happy with this set. - This is a pretty nice, compact set of water colors. There is a total of 48 rich & vibrant color spanning the entire spectrum. - Included is a water-pen. It can be dipped into a color and transferred to the brush-like tip. Only one pen with a medium tip is included. When done with a select color, just press the pens sides to flush out the color from the bristles, then move on to the next color. Simple, fast and easy! - The metal box unfolds outward so that 3 watercolor mixing tray can be used. - After opening each color container, there is not a way to save the tag/label to identify that color in the future. It would have been nice to have an area to place the label. - There is an attached test page for trying out a color, but it is not in any order. Not by color, or product number. - I love painting and this watercolor set can be used at home or taken with when traveling. The above review is for Art Whale’s 48 color watercolor set.
Art Whale Watercolors 48 half pans Not since I left Europe have I seem such a full disclosure of information regarding Art Whale one half pans of watercolor. But I am getting ahead of this review. Comes in a pin metallic tin, inside a pink microfiber cloth wraps the tin. First thing you see are instructions on the swatch paper palette to make and see the colors of the 48 color selections. Telling me I can see the watercolor looks like on paper in comparisons with how it looks like when dry. (Words taken from pamphlet found inside of pink tin). The next surprise when the swatch paper (watercolor around 400 (guessing) a good quality paper. I found not only each half pan listed but, the Color number, the color name, pigment number) and a light fastness grade and a transparency . Example D243 Cadmium Yellow Medium Pigment PY35 Lightfastness Grade 5 Transparent. How's that for a full disclosure. Impressive? You Bet. Highly recommend this set above all others in disclosure and quality.
I got this as a gift for my teenage daughter. We sent her to art camp one year and she's into art. I'm not an artist myself but I've spent over 20 years working with professional artists. I expected this to be a cheap overpriced set but I was extremely impressed once I opened it. It's SUPER nice although I admit I've not checked out any competing products. Pros =nice pink cloth wrapping it all up that you can use for whatever purpose or wrap up the metal box and put it back in the box. =They include a nice paper folding listing of all the colors and a square where you can place the color for comparison =They include all of the colors clearly listed out =GREAT selection of colors Overall, super recommended if you're ok with the price.
