Art Whale Artists' Watercolor 24 Colors in Half-Pans

I haven’t used them much yet and am a fairly new beginner to watercolor but seem to be good watercolors. The colors are a good palette choice with a cool and warm primary color selection and the colors are vibrant , transparent, beautiful and some colors seem to have some granulating. They are not chalky at all. I add a little dropper of water or lightly mist to “wake” them up and they seem to flow well and are easy to use. They come in a nice well made metal tin wrapped with a pretty pink fabric, a waterbrush and a nice paper informational color swatch chart. The work I have done with them looks beautiful. I am very happy with the set and the purchase. They are a great set at a great price.

I went from using Prang student-grade watercolors to this set. I really like these pans and the color selection available. I would recommend using a separate palette for mixing, as the metal of the tin just makes the colors bead up and stay in separate little bubbles of water. That's the only "flaw" I see, and it's more just an inconvenience than a real problem.

I was pleasantly surprised by these for Artists grade. Nice color load and well thought out palette of colors.

I bought this during Prime Week. The price was great. I loved the colors so much I went back and ordered the bigger pallet set. The quality is excellent. They are fun to use. The transparency is nice and they work well!

I have never done watercolors before so my experience is limited. This set met all my needs. The packaging was professional and attractive - it would make a good gift. The color palette is varied and has space for mixing to create new colors. I found that spritzing the colors before using gave me lovely pigments to work with. Beware the purple is EXCEPTIONALLY dark and pigmented! The only thing I wish I had is a shade of white.

I don't know much about quality art supplies, but I assume a paint set that costs twice as much would be better, but with that said, this set inspires me to stretch my skills and learn new ways of mixing colors and using the paints to creat art. I really love the way it is set up, which makes it very easy to have different mixtures all at once and to see the variations as you add new colors. Anyway, I could go on, but the point is that as somewhat of a beginner who wants to improve, this set is perfect for me right now.

I am currently in love with this set. I still consider myself an extreme beginner in terms of any art, but the depth of the color of these paints is breathtaking! You really have to see it in person to understand. The paint swatches on the included swatch card, all the paints go on very smooth, with a strong pigment load with each brush-full! And then when I was ready for my own painting, I felt confident to just go for it. Using just four colors, I was able to make something that for the first time I feel actually proud of. (It's not perfect, but I'm at least proud of it.) The colors spread across the page effortlessly, and I felt like my vision was able to come to reality better than I could have imagined. The included tin is a bit difficult to open, and the little paper covers were extremely annoying to have to take off, but I also really really appreciate the information on pigments and lightfastness. Feels like a highly professional set. The included water brush is also the nicest one I've used out of all the other sets I've tried. (It's so hard to get a brush with water flow that I like!) I look forward to my next painting with the Art Whale.

I am very new to to watercolors, so I'm still learning and deciding what I do/don't like. I DO love this set! The metal tin and the overall presentation is great! Comes with a good amount of colors (24), a waterbrush, swatch sheet and essential two metal palettes that fold out from the set. The set is half pans and they are held in place by a metal strip you can bend to remove/replace. There's a label on each pan noting color, vehicle (gum arabic), lightfastness and transparency. The paints are easy to wet/load your brush. They paint beautifully and don't leave behind any chalkiness. They seem very pigmented and rich. I don't care for waterbrushes, so I used my brushes that came with another set. But I do like that the waterbrush is included. There's a pink cloth included, though I can't figure out what that's for exactly. Maybe cleaning your brush after rinsing? It doesn't state anywhere on the listing what it's for. It was wrapped around the tin in the box. I LOVE this set and it's now my favorite out of all the ones I've been trying.

I admit that I do not know much about watercolors and have only experienced the inexpensive sets which young children use. Because I would like to try watercolor painting, I got this set and was immediately inspired to explore it and create! This easily portable set is beautifully enclosed in a box lined in soft fabric, and two lids on either side of the metal case are conveniently sectioned so they can be used for mixing paint. The brush that is included is one which allows water to be dispersed through the handle to the brush. This is a great feature! After peeling off the plastic covering the 24 small rectangles of paint, I enjoyed completing the enclosed paper palette reference sheet and familiarizing myself with the color names. My nine year old grandchild observed and assisted me in this process and we have both enjoyed experimenting with the paint set since then. A lovely set for a reasonable price.

This is a really nice watercolor paint set. The colors are highly pigmented, very vibrant beautiful colors. Great selection of colors. They mix easily and go on smoothly. I love the waterbrush that is included with the set; can paint without having a separate container or water. This makes it very convenient and easy to use when traveling. The size of the container also makes this a very portable set of paints. The tin has a ring on the back to use to hold the palette. It also has five small mixing trays inside. It came very nicely packaged; would make a nice gift to give someone. This is a great beginner set because the paint is better than standard "student grade" paint and the color selection includes most, if not all of the colors that instructors generally require in beginning classes. It is also nice for more advanced students. I really am enjoying using this set!!!

The set comes in a sturdy metal box. There are shallow compartments inside the case lid that can be used to wet and mix colors a bit. A nice brush is included and has a space in the middle of the case. The color variety is pretty and includes more subtle, subdued, and rich shades. Great for beginning and/or traveling artists!

Very nice set of watercolor at a very nice price. The set came well packaged and protected. It came with a swatch card and I swatched it right away. The colors are very vibrant and easy to wet. The color do not look chalky to me at all, although a couple of the colors needed an extra layer to get the colors to really show (Like Burnt Sienna and Cobalt Blue). The swatch card came with pigment information which I really like. Most of the colors are made with lightfast pigments. I generally do not like water brushes so I did not try the brush that the set came with. I would definitely recommend this set to people starting watercolor but don't want to get the cheapest student grade paint.

The tin contains 24 colors with a color guide sheet, the sides have indentations to be used for mixing and as a palette. The side has a ring to slip the tray in your finger to hold. The paints themselves are really good quality with easy blendability, fast drying and good transparency. Grab a set for yourself or as a present. The current price of $24 gets better with the 10% coupon, bringing the final cost to $21.60.

I got this for my granddaughter as the kid watercolor paint sets just don't work well! This set was great! Many different colors and all the colors are beautiful and vibrant. We had never used (or heard of!) a water brush before, but one came with this set and it is such a great idea! The handle of the brush is a tube that holds water and keeps the brush wet. Very satisfied with this paint set!

This is such a nice set. First off, it feels weighty and elegant. The case is lovely and well made with lots of space for color mixing. There is a color card that you can fill out to test the colors and see what they will look like. The range of colors is excellent for a starter set. This gives you paints that are nicer than the basic water colors sets most people start with. Definitely a step up. The pigment sticks well and has good saturation. Excellent price for the quality.

There is a fold out paper included where you can paint each color to really see what they will be. I would absolutely buy this set as a gift for someone who I know likes watercolors.10/10 overall. This set of 24, recognizable artist's watercolors is very useable. Some watercolor sets are useless because the colors are not standard and most of the time there is not a Payne's Grey, which I need. Surprising how certain colors just have to be available in order to get things done. This set is very nice, the tin is great. I just rearranged the order of the paints to match the color swatch. The half pans are hard to color identify when the are dry and I need to learn them out of habit and location for now. The paints behave well. Great for beginners because they give you enough colors in one set. Standard half pans. Some colors are new to me, but many of the standards are included. 5 stars

What a lovely set!! I’ve never had watercolors other than the kids kind and I am in love with these. The set comes with a nice variety of colors and a cool paint brush that you can fill with water. The colors are vibrant… or they don’t have to be if you don’t want them to since these are watercolors! The case is really nice and it comes with a sample card that you can paint the colors on to. The only other thing you need is watercolor paper and you’re all set.

I needed a set of watercolor to travel with and this selection works well. There are a variety of colors and transparencies and I like being able to use the tin as a pallet.

I am thrilled that they came in a metal case! With enough space on there to mix colors & how saturated they are, the paint stays in place because they snap in. Each block of paint is covered by stickers when you unbox. We put the names beside the coresponding color; the right side definitely turned out better 😅 I'm sharing flowers to show how well the colors mixed & the range they have.

These watercolors are actually amazing. Honestly, when they arrived in the mail, I was very skeptical, but boy was I wrong. Strong, bright pigment, high quality color payoff, and easy to use, I'm completely in love with these.
