Art Whale Metallic Watercolor 48 Colors in Half-Pans in a Tin Box with Waterbrush

I usually don't review products, but these paints deserve a 5-star rating! I am an artist and visual arts teacher and got this set to see if I wanted to add it to my collection of watercolor paints. I will be getting four more of these sets so my students can use them on their projects. Amazing quality that is highly pigmented.

Would a professional use this set? I don't know, but as a novice I can tell you this is perfect. It adds lovely iridescent depth to your watercolor. I am very happy with the purchase and have tested it on a few pieces..

These watercolors are stunning. I'm new to watercoloring and love the shine these add to projects. Even more, the packaging was exquisite. They come in a beautiful case and have a color chart to fill in. Thank you!!!

When I first opened this set I thought the little paint pans were really tiny, but they are certainly mighty! I'm pretty sure they're going to last a long while, as it would appear a little goes a long way. There is a nice range of colors that paint well on all sorts of paper, both colored and white. The metal box that everything is kept in has areas for mixing colors, plus a handy chart for applying each color in order. This would make an excellent gift, but I chose it for myself. I'm not an artist, so I can't attest to that value, but I am a crafter and scrapbooker and this is an excellent addition to my craft supplies! I highly recommend this!

This is a very attractive set of watercolors that looks almost identical to similar name brand sets. I was excited to try glitter paints. I found it took a lot of paint to develop deep colors. I noticed that if I layered colors on top of one another the glittery shine was more prominent. They were fun to experiment with, but not a favorite of mine. They might be just what you are looking for.

The only reason I'm not giving this product. 5 stars is because I'm not sure if I got the right set. This is supposed to be a metallic watercolor set, and the one I received says "glitter" on it. Maybe it's the same thing? Maybe the manufacturer uses both words interchangeably? I'm not sure, and that was a bit confusing. Otherwise, I have to say this set is beautiful. The box that it comes in and the way that it is presented definitely feels like this is something much more luxurious than what the majority of us are used to buying. The colors are not vivid. This is indeed a very true watercolor set in that these are going to be lighter and easily washed out. Overall, I am exceedingly pleased.

I was so excited to open and dig into this set of watercolors! I quickly took the time to peel the paper off each square of paint so I could fill out the color chart to get a feel for the different hues. Unfortunately, when I got ready to grab the brush and get started, I realized that it had not been included. I looked and looked, and the only place it could fit in the little tin was obviously empty. So that’s a real bummer. Other than that, it would be an easy 5 stars—the colors are varied and have a nice shimmer and the tin is handy. Of course I have other paintbrushes on hand, but I’m still disappointed.

Nicely presented item -- gift-giving packaging. Item contains all as stated on the page. The color chart is a helpful addition; I recommend you fill that out so you can see how each color looks when dry and how sheer/shimmer it actually looks on paper. I wish the price was below $30.

Really fantastic set of metallic watercolors. I'm not a professional watercolor artist, but here's what I liked about this set: - 48 vibrant metallic watercolors - Durable tin / palette - Swatch paper (thick and toothy with no warping!) to sample colors on the page - Excellent opacity in the pigment--some other metallic watercolors are hard to lift onto the brush, and are very transparent when applied to the page, regardless of how thick the paint is on the brush. These pigments are excellent quality and will meet (and exceed) your expectations in the palette and on the page.

Expansive color palette in this set. Good, heavy pigmentation - and also behaves well when used with more water for a lighter wash effect. The metal box is great - and the fold out palette sections make mixing a breeze. Due to the size of this one, I’m more likely to use it at home - or for travel where my destination includes a table or flat surface to work on, and probably not for any plein air work. The color pans do remove easily and I will likely move select ones of these into my smaller travel kit when I want to be truly portable. The care and detail in the packaging would make this a great gift. It’s well made and looks like it will stand up to many years of use. Highly recommend.

Had hours of fun learning to paint with the family.

These watercolors came packaged in a really nice box with a microfiber cloth and waterbrush included which is super handy. The colors are very vibrant and pretty pigmented, and extremely shiny/glittery. I think kids would really enjoy the effect, or adults wanting to add something special to their watercolors. If you do an entire painting with these, it will be extremely shiny so I think they're better for details you want to give that effect. I had low expectations but its a nice little kit, lots of colors to choose from and they mix well. I can't really say exactly how high quality or lightfast the paints are, but at least it feels like they are trying to provide a quality product and bundle with this set.

I haven’t used the watercolor medium as an adult. I think because we used them so much in grade school, I assumed they were geared toward children. This set is really nice. The colors are saturated and the metallics give off a cool effect. The kit comes with everything you need to get started and the trays clean up easily. As a beginner, and for the price, this is a good set to get.

The Art Whale Metallic Watercolor kit is just fantastic. I have so much fun discovering all the colors included in this set. I am a complete beginner...except for the early grades of school I haven't water colored in 60 years (except for house painting = gallons, lol). There aren't any instructions included with the kit, so I went to the advert on Amazon and read some reviews. By the repeated call out of the "Waterbrush included" in the advert, I figured it out and started enjoying. The included blank color chart is a brilliant idea. I doubt that I will sample and paint all the colors onto this blank slate before my creative side starts painting other masterpieces. When I opened the metal case and saw the indented mixing pans, it threw me back to childhood memories of my old watercolor set...reminiscent. The new age metallic colors in this set are a big hit with our household.

I am a beginner with water colors. I wanted a set to take on vacation and try a new hobby and these served the purpose. At 5 inches by 9 inches, and 1 1/2 inches thick, the box is very compact , and complete, with lots of colors to choose from. I am looking forward to having some fun with this set of water colors.

I fall more into the category of seasoned beginners that some of the other categories. Basically, I have some experience with watercolors, but wouldn't claim to be proficient with them. These work great, and I like the tin they come in. It makes it easy to keep everything together and keep the mess in one place. Nice set and I'm looking forward to using it more.

The packaging is great. I love the tin, and the box it comes in. You get a booklet so you can swatch each color, and it's already labeled! The colors are super pretty, and super metallic. Really easy to use. Most metallics you need to soak with droplets of water first, but these are quick to soak up the water.

Nice enough pallet, beautiful colors that are a pleasure to work with. I love the slight shimmer to these paints. I am not an artist, I mostly art journal and collage and play, but I own some artist paints and some hobby sets and these are definitely closer toward the artist end in the way they behave with picking up the color and getting lots of pigment on the paper.

This watercolor set is really nice. You get 48 colors of glitter/metallic watercolors in half pans. It comes beautifully packaged in box that has the metal tin wrapped in a dabbing cloth. The tin itself has little indentations in it where you can mix the colors as you paint to make new ones. There is a fold out paper included where you can paint each color to really see what they will be. The half pans are covered with stickers in the beginning so you know what each number corresponds to on the paper. I would absolutely buy this set as a gift for someone who I know likes to play with watercolors.

This is such a nice set. First off, it feels weighty and elegant. The case is lovely and well made with lots of space for color mixing. There is a color card that you can fill out to test the colors and see what they will look like. These are gorgeous with the shimmer, which is so unusual in quality paints, and sets these apart. This gives you paints that are nicer than the basic water colors sets most people start with. Definitely a step up. The pigment sticks well and has good saturation. Excellent price for the quality.

Wow! This is such a nice watercolor paint set! You get so many colors, and the glitter effect is really cool. The case opens up to multiple palette trays. Each tablet of paint can be individually removed from the tray, if desired. The set also includes a very nice towel/cloth for dabbing your brush or work. They’ve also included a folded card that you can paint a little sample of each color onto so you can see what it looks like. Truly a high quality watercolor set!

I am just starting to dive into watercolors. I ordered this set to get me started. I am pleased with the colors and quality. It comes in a tin that makes it easy to travel with. The colors are metallic and it comes with a color guide. Great set!

Love these paints! The colors are saturated and glittery. The folding tin is useful and cleverly designed. 48 half pans provide enough color for many paintings.

I like the chart included in this set. I also like the trays that can be used to mix the colors while you work.

These are the first metallics I’ve used. They give my dragonfly painting a nice touch in the wings. This is a really nice set with 48 half pans to choose from. They mix and flow well. A really nice addition to my watercolor palette.
