I'm fairly new to gouache painting and only had a small starter set of a few colors so this set allows me to spread my wings, so to speak, with 42 colors. Personally, I would have preferred more basic colors and fewer metallics but that's just me. This gouache paint is smooth and silky with no lumps or grit. The individual containers have nice, snap-on caps and the who set is housed in a plastic tray with secure snap-on cover (with handles molded into the top) and foam padding inside that pressed down on the tops of the individual paint tubs, keeping the closed tight. Good packaging that helps keep the paint fresh.
1 part: Newbie in gouache says these are BIG wells, a nice case (handle on lid) but only 18 NON metallic ___This is a HEAVY set, but that is because the wells where the paint lives are very deep. They are replaceable/removable. ___The case has plastic handles that simply lift up--I suspect they needed two because the entire assembly is so heavy. I fear the handles could break under the load if you solely use the handles. I would plan to carry the case in a tote, rather than find out the hard way that I was right about the strength of the handles. ___You can arrange the pots how you like, and I suppose you could leave some home to lighten the load. ___The metallic hues include a very beautiful nice copper, also silvers and golds. Most of the rest of the metallic pots are metallic hues...a metallic pink, blue, etcetera. There are only 18 good ole ordinary hues, so know that going in.

2 part: ___18 vs 42 total seems low, but honestly a palette of 10 colors carefully chosen (and some medium) is all skilled artists need to create the hue they want (generally). I will not use all those metallic hues (except true metal colors like gold, etc), but you may have chosen subject matter that needs it. ___To be fair, while I know something about oil and acrylic paints, I am a newbie in gouache, so I can not give a meaningful review of these particular paints to anything else. I don't want to mislead you. ___So, a generous amount of paint in replaceable pots, enough basic colors, but heavy on metallic and handles you need to be careful of. I'd say 4.5 stars (but I am a newbie on judging the actual paint quality, and I can't deduct points from a product because I can't speak to that particular issue).

I am new to gouache paint so I really wasn't sure what to expect. I am extremely impressed with this kit, though I have to admit that I have not yet opened it as I am working on another project. The colors are absolutely brilliant, and moist, and the cups are quite large in my opinion. While I do have some experience painting furniture I do not have any doing smaller projects like painting a picture so I will have to read up on using gouache paint before I start. But, I do that for everything new anyway. I am a digital hoarder of all the projects one could want to do and I am excited to finally try some of the painting ones.

Wow - this is a huge set and heavy! Love that the case has carry handles that fold away so they don't take up extra room. Huge variety of colors that are vibrant and work well for watercolor. A little goes a long way for watercolor! I used the metallic deep purple to practice button flower petals and buds, and the color is beautiful. It will take quite some time to go through these!

i did not expect this set to come with such large quantity of paint. These are not small pan but huge containers of paint. The paint is wet and all the containers are plastic sealed. Once you open them, all the containers have lids so they won't (shouldn't dry out). So far no leaking. Gouache should be rewettable so I will report back if this isn't the case. Unless it is acrylic gouache and I am a little disappointed that it is not stated clearly what kind of gouache it is.

The colors are so vivid and beautiful. They drive very quickly and look simply divine. They are fun to use and work very well. The size of the paint containers perfect. Great value for the price. This paint set is an artist dream. So many color options, 24 metallic and 18 basic. But there is nothing basic about this paint set. The creamy texture, vibrant colors and endless possibilities. I started dot painting but love abstract painting as well. You can use on a canvas , paper, or wood etc. You can use as is, or water down for a different effect. Either way the results will be amazing. You can have fun creating something that can last forever. This set is perfect for beginners or experienced artists. The colors come in a pretty good size plastic container with a lid. Not only that but it comes with a carrying case so it is easy to carry. Overall excellent product and definitely value for the money!!!

This set of gouache paint is amazing! It was packaged so perfectly. It's airtight. There are latches on all four sides of the container. Each 1.7 Oz paint cup has its own lid. It comes with stickers to put the colors on the lids. You can also flip it upside down and see what color is in which slot because there's a hole underneath every cup of paint. I've never gotten such a bargain on so much paint before. This will definitely unleash your creativity. I love it so much I'm going back to get another one. Delivery time wasn't too bad either. I got mine in about a week.
